Haley’s Heirloom Gown Re-Creation

We had the special honor of re-creating Haley’s wedding gown using her  mother’s special gown.  Here are her words of thanks to us about the process:
“I wanted to thank you again for making the perfect dress for me. It really meant a lot to have my mom with my special day through your dress. It truly honored her memory and I know she would have loved it. It was so special for me to have my first look with my dad wearing my part of my moms dress.
Thank you again for helping make my day so special and helped me honor my mom in a special way. “- Haley, Bride October 2017
Haley is pictured below in all her lovely radiant glory, in a studio shoot we had of her wearing her mother’s veil and floral crown with a wedding day photo of her.

Catherine’s Custom Wedding Gown

We lovingly created this custom gown especially for Catherine, highlighting lace from her mother’s wedding gown, which we mixed with new chantilly lace and delicate flowey overlay of silk chiffon gauze over silk hemp and organic cotton.

We also had the extreme pleasure of creating her sister’s custom gown a few years back, and knowing this lovely family more deeply has been rewarding.

Their love and support of each other spills forth into those they encounter, and their presence is a blessing.

Her husband is from Lima, Peru, and the couple incorporated both languages and many traditional fabrics into their special union. Check out her Peruvian shoes!

   Congrats Catherine and Italo!

Sarah’s Extra-Special Heirloom Redesign Gown

Sarah Mountray Gown low back, kansas city hawthorne house

We had the opportunity to remake a truly special gown for bride Sarah– this dress has such rich history, and we completely transformed the puffy-sleeved truly vintage style into a sleek gown worthy of any hip modern bride!

Sarah's grandmother 1955 vintage silk wedding dress

Sarah is the 3rd generation and 4th bride to wear this Italian Silk wedding gown, which was purchased in NYC for $125.00 in 1955… (Wowzers! That would have been an expensive dress then and the silk is still in flawless condition!)

Sarah’s grandmother wore the dress in April, 1955, and her great aunt also wore the dress in 1960.

The dress was first altered by Sarah’s mother, who was married in June 1989.  Then, sleeves were shortened and material from the skirt was used to make side panels.

To transform Sarah’s special dress, the small team of local seamstresses at “Janay A Eco Bridal” took nearly the entire dress apart and used the fabric to cut an entirely new pattern.

We left the bodice beading intact, adding fabric in to make it fit and adding an entirely new “under dress” to maintain the integrity of the delicate silk overlay.  We created her new dress with heirloom quality organic linings and more modern boning and structure for the best fit.

We then added a delicate Chantilly lace, hand-sewn on over the entire bodice and scalloped hem detail.  In collaboration with the bride, designer Janay added champagne and rose colored pearl beading to the blush pink belt and coordinating blush tulle under the gown.

The finished result was stunning, a special dress with sentimental value and a fun modern style.

“Thank you again for your patience, kindness, talent and creativity which gave us such an exquisite dress that can be passed down to the next generation!” -Beth Moutray, bride Sarah’s Mother.

Amber’s Re-Imagined Heirloom Gown

We’re so thrilled that Amber brought her beautiful mother’s wedding dress to us to re-imagine into the sweet modern-meets-vintage gown that it became!

Her original lace was removed entirely and then placed on top of entirely new upgraded fabrics in a more modern slim A-line cut.  We used Silk-Hemp and Organic Cotton lining for comfy and breathable heirloom quality.

She was so sweet to wear her gown again at a fashion show, what an amazing lady!

“If I told me years ago I would wear my mothers dress at my own wedding, I would have never believed you. I considered myself pretty non-traditional bridal style and knew shopping for dresses would be a challenge. The option to design my own dress, to my style and have the sentimental value of my mothers dress was the perfect combination.”      -Amber

“Janay worked to find my vision and keep the integrity of the dress’s original style, re-imagined.” -Amber

From her Mom: “I bought my dress in the summer of  1982 at the only store in our local town which carried wedding dresses.   My mother & I went together and as soon as I tried this dress on, I knew it was the one.”
